SPARK is Jönköping University’s research and education environment in knowledge‑intensive product development. Here, solutions are developed in close collaboration with industry, with the aim of strengthening the global competitiveness of Swedish manufacturing.

The new projects focus on the green industrial transition, smart manufacturing, cyber security, resilient supply chains and innovative technologies for sustainable industry. Special emphasis is placed on supporting early‑career researchers and building cutting‑edge expertise through interdisciplinary initiatives.

" With these new projects, which will mainly be led by our younger researchers, we ensure academic competence and knowledge development in collaboration with our industrial partners.
Kerstin Johansen
Associate Dean of Research at the School of Engineering and Programme Manager for SPARK

This investment is being made within the framework of KK‑miljöer – the Knowledge Foundation’s most powerful programme for supporting the development and profiling of academic environments.

" After almost ten years of support through the KK‑miljö programme, we have seen SPARK grow into a unifying force for academia and industry. The programme is now entering its final year, but the strong structures and partnerships established over time have laid a solid foundation for continued progress even after the formal programme period.
Eva Schelin
CEO of the Knowledge Foundation

The initiatives now being launched have successfully passed the University’s internal quality assurance system. SPARK’s long‑term plan for 2026 and beyond has also been reviewed by the Knowledge Foundation’s expert group for KK‑miljöer.

" SPARK has succeeded in the demanding task of creating cross‑technical environments that strengthen both education and relevance for industry and society. Its strong anchoring in the industrial sector means the environment will continue to contribute to Sweden’s competitiveness in the years ahead.
Hans Hentzell
Chair of the Expert Group for KK-miljöer
