This autumn, the Knowledge Foundation will launch a new call offering co-funding for doctoral programmes under MSCA COFUND.A key change is that Swedish universities can now receive support when participating as co-applicants in international proposals.

The change means that universities can now apply for co-funding even when participating as co-applicants in larger European consortia, for example within European University alliances. The Knowledge Foundation’s support can in such cases be used to finance the Swedish part of the proposal.
MSCA COFUND is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions within the EU’s Horizon Europe programme. As the scheme only covers part of the project costs, significant co-funding is required, which can be a barrier for many institutions. Through this initiative, the Knowledge Foundation aims to lower these barriers and strengthen Sweden’s participation in the programme.
The call is aimed at universities within the Knowledge Foundation’s target group and covers doctoral programmes planned within the framework of MSCA COFUND. To be awarded funding from the Knowledge Foundation, the programme must be carried out in collaboration with industry.
The call opens on 10 September and closes in mid-November 2026. Decisions are expected no later than 18 December. The full call text will be published in mid-June.
