Green transition of the business sector

For Sweden to achieve net zero emissions by 2045, a far-reaching transition within the business sector is required. The Knowledge Foundation is therefore investing SEK 90 million in competence development to support the business sector’s green transition. Through three different projects, academia, business actors and other collaborating partners will develop education and training for professionals.

Key facts

  • The Knowledge Foundation invests up to SEK 30 million per project over five to six years.
  • Focus on areas of competence with strategic importance for the green transition of the business sector.
  • Development and delivery of stand-alone courses at advanced level for professionals, as well as master’s programmes within selected areas.
  • The design and delivery of education and training shall be adapted to the needs of professionals.
  • Universities are expected to develop more effective working methods and to strengthen their long-term capacity for lifelong learning.
  • The expected development of joint industrial graduate schools (with additional funding) within selected areas of competence is intended to promote sustained and deepened collaboration between the partners.

Funded projects

  • University West, together with Uppsala University and other collaborating partners, will address the industry's competence needs by developing and delivering courses in electrical engineering that enable future electrification. Education and training in electrical engineering are in strong demand from industry, as this expertise is essential for the business sector’s climate transition and for the electrification of society.

In autumn 2024, an industrial graduate school was launched within the the initiative. A total of 12 doctoral candidates will be educated through the graduate school.

Funding SEK 27 million for education for working professionals. In 2024, an additional SEK 26 million was awarded for an industrial graduate school.
