Synergy projects

The programme Synergy projects, serves as a tool for universities with an ambition to focus their research and education and develop a foundation for continued profiling. The synergy project should emanate from the joint research question and be addressed by combining several subprojects.

The 2025 call for proposals within the programme Synergy projects will open on 9 September.

Programme summary

  • A business-relevant research question drives a research project towards scientific profiling
  • A number of  scientifically based subprojects, address the joint research question
  • The contribution from business partners to the project must in total correspond to at least the same amount as that applied for from the Knowledge Foundation
  • Maximum funding: SEK 11 million
  • Maximum project duration: 6 years

Background to the programme

The programme enables the universities to address research questions that may require perspectives and skills from other subject areas. Based on a well-defined, business-relevant research question, the results of a synergy project must contribute towards development of the research frontier.

Contribution to strong research and educational environments

The specific purpose of the programme is for one or more research and education environments to coordinate and develop its research towards scientific profiling.
